Career plans and intensions and explain how the master programme will help to achieve these aims.

During my secondary education, I developed a strong interest in real estate. Over time I realized I wanted to pursue a career in real estate. I gained valuable work experience when I participated in a real estate fund internship last summer. After graduation, I plan on working for a property investment company in China. Being trilingual (fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin), will allow me to work throughout Asia. My goal is to start my own real estate business in China. I want to provide real estate consulting and investment services to clients from around the world. Through the services I will provide, I want to have a positive influence in the real estate industry. To accomplish this goal, I need to develop practical research skills, and learn more about real property markets. The full RCIS qualification, combined with the course, will develop my analytical and financial modeling skills a perfect foundation for my future career path. I have a strong social conscience and a passion to positively manipulate the world of real estate. This professional qualification is one of the reasons why I want to take this course.

In no more than 500 words, please describe how your interests and achievement, both academic and extracurricular, demonstrate a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others. Please note that this information is NOT considered as part of your application for admission to the course.

I began to develop my leadership and interpersonal skills by participating in various extracurricular activities at my secondary school. Under my leadership as the basketball team captain, the basketball team was promoted from division 2 to division 1when we won the Hong Kong Inter-School Basketball League Championship in 2006. I learned how to motivate the team, and we all learned the importance of teamwork and how to play as a single unit.  I also participated in the anti-bullying initiative and mentoring scheme.  Those activities taught me how to effectively listen and communicate with people in order to achieve positive results.  I volunteered at the Shatin Retirement Centre and at the Hong Kong Vocational Centre from 2005 through 2007. At the Shatin Retirement Centre, I helped the elderly perform daily activities. At the Hong Kong Vocational Centre, I taught special children how to prepare for their future within the community.

In November 2008, I was the runner up in the Warwick Entrepreneur Business Idea Competition sponsored by Merrill Lynch and Accenture. I submitted a detailed business proposal, presented my business idea to a panel of judges and responded to questions in front of a large audience. I learned how to plan and start a business, and how to effectively communicate my ideas. Following the summer of 2009, I traveled to Beijing to attend the Management Entrepreneurship and Global Leadership course at the London School of Economics  Peking University Summer School. I achieved a distinction in the course. I worked on a business project with students from diverse cultural backgrounds who had a wealth of experience in different industries. I gained an appreciation for the cultural differences between the East and West. That type of personal and social development will aid in my professionalism and business accruement.

In the summer of 2006, I had an internship at S W  L Solicitors and Notaries in Hong Kong. I learned general property legal procedures, how to coordinate with other professional parties, and participated in live projects. My internship in the real estate fund department of Mourant International strengthened my knowledge in real estate finance. I assisted the team in running co-investment schemes, and helped the team make capital and income distribution for prospective clients.

I believe I can make a difference and positively contribute to the real estate finance programme. I have the confidence to be actively engaged with the community at the university. I understand the connection between what is learned within academia and how to apply it to the work environment. This understanding will be beneficial as I learn more about concepts in real estate and how they are practically applied. My experiences will allow me to be an active participant in the programme who can effectively communicate my ideas, while being sensitive to the expertise and culture of others.  I am committed to improving the lives of others and if given the opportunity, I can demonstrate my personal and academic strengths to the real estate finance programme.
